About MainStreetLens — Born from a Kitchen Table

The story of how two overthinkers decided to fix a broken system for small business buyers.

Where It Started

MainStreetLens started at a kitchen table — the same kind where most great business ideas begin.

Peekay Chan and his wife were looking to buy their first business. They had the passion, they had the savings, and they had a fairly good list of candidates. What they didn't have was the kind of location intelligence that seemed to be locked behind paywalls and enterprise pricing.

They tried the big consulting firms. They tried the online tools. Everything either cost thousands of dollars for a report they'd barely read, or returned generic recommendations that any good realtor could give them over coffee.

So they did what any overthinkers do — they started analyzing the data themselves.

Weeks of spreadsheets, maps, demographic downloads, traffic counts, and competitive scans later, they realized two things: first, that a lot of people were going through the exact same frustration, and second, that there had to be a smarter way to put all of this together without hiring a firm.

That "smarter way" became MainStreetLens.

Our approach

What We Built

MainStreetLens takes the kind of location analysis that used to require a consulting team and makes it accessible to anyone thinking about buying or expanding a business. It looks at real data — foot traffic, demographic trends, competitive overlap, market health — and translates it into something actionable for a person making one of the biggest decisions of their life.

We don't pretend to have a crystal ball. What we offer is clarity. The kind of clarity that comes from actually looking at the numbers instead of guessing.

Who it's for

Built for three kinds of people

Explorers

Just curious about what it would be like to own a business? Start here. There's no pressure, just good information.

Buyers

Actively looking at businesses and want to know if the location is right before making an offer.

Owners

Considering opening a second location or planning an exit, and need data to support the decision.

Why it matters

Information shouldn't be a luxury good

Buying a business is one of those life decisions that doesn't come around often. You spend your savings, your time, sometimes your family's support on it. It shouldn't require a $20,000 consulting fee to get good information.

We built MainStreetLens because we believe that information shouldn't be a luxury good. The same data that big chains use should be available to the person with a small business dream and a strong work ethic.

The bottom line

Still a small team, still learning

We're still a small team. We're still learning. But we're the kind of team that actually does the analysis before we make a claim, because we know what it feels like to get it wrong.
